How We Started
In 1985, Steve Jobs shared a profound vision — a dream where the wisdom of great educators could transcend the boundaries of time and mortality. He longed for a world where we could not only read the words of luminaries like Aristotle but engage with them, ask them questions, and feel the warmth of their guidance.
Fast forward to 2023, a group of passionate AI dreamers stumbled upon this speech, and it stirred something deep within their hearts. The idea of granting digital immortality to exceptional educators resonated with them on a soul-deep level. They imagined a world where the teachings of the greatest minds would live forever, touching souls and enlightening minds for generations yet unborn.
These AI dreamers were a diverse ensemble — a university instructor who has devoted his life to nurturing young minds, an engineering Ph.D. whose years of teaching have unveiled the transformative power of knowledge, and bright talents from esteemed institutions like the University of Illinois, Harvard, UPenn, the University of Michigan, and the University of Chicago. United by a shared passion, they embarked on a journey to breathe life into Steve Jobs' heartfelt dream.
This is how AristAI was born — a harmonious blend of Aristotle and Artificial Intelligence. Each of us brought unique experiences and perspectives, but we were all driven by a common purpose: to make the wisdom of exceptional educators accessible to all.
You know who Alexander the Great's tutor was for about 14 years? It's Aristotle. I became immensely jealous and I think I would have enjoyed that a great deal.
Through the miracle of the printed page, I can at least read what Aristotle wrote without an intermediary, at least I can directly go to the source material. But, I can't ask Aristotle a question!
My hope is that in our lifetimes, we can make a tool of a new kind, an interactive kind, that someday when the next Aristotle is alive, we can capture the the underlying worldview of that Aristotle in a computer, and someday, some students can not only read the words Aristotle wrote but ask Aristotle a question! That is what I hope that we can do.
